My Birthday Getaway in Hong Kong & Macau 2019

By Angel Macaraig - Sunday, June 02, 2019

For the past years, I didn't have a chance to properly celebrate my birthday. Last year, I was too busy with COMPRE & thesis (in graduate school). Then two years ago, I just started at my new work, and filing an unpaid vacation leave would have been a bad idea πŸ˜‚! For this year, I made sure to treat myself by travelling out of the country, which I also used as an excuse to temporarily escape from my responsibilities in school (haha!). March to May 2019 were critical months for my thesis — schedule of graduate school colloquium & oral defense fell on these months. Glad I was able to push through with this plan despite my busy schedule.

My Birthday Getaway in Hong Kong & Macau 2019

I originally planned to go to Thailand on my birthday, but my friend suggested to visit Hong Kong instead. Agreed to her suggestion because Disneyland's part of my bucket list anyway. Just to make sure that the trip won't be in conflict with any school or work-related activities, I scheduled it during holy week (April 18 - 22, 2019, to be exact).

Macau is just one ferry away from HK, so I added it in our itinerary as well. I'll create a separate post for my HK-Macau Itinerary. Please watch out for it. For the mean time, I'll be sharing the highlights of our HK-Macau trip. πŸ™‚

Highlights of our Hong Kong - Macau Trip

1. Our mandatory airport shot!

It was our first time travelling as an engaged couple (yup, we got engaged last Feb. 12, 2019), so we deserved this airport shot haha! Cheers to more travels together!❤️

With my fiance!

With Rizza! Actually, it was our birthday getaway! And, PJ's the real third wheel!

2. Disneyland

Our first time to experience Disneyland! It's indeed one of the happiest places on earth!

Mickey & Minnie!
It's a small world!

3. Peak Tram + Victoria Peak + Madame Tussauds

Victoria Peak's on top of our list! If there's one thing PJ & I have in common, it is our love for skyscraper view. Unfortunately, it was raining when we went to SkyTerrace 428, and we can't see anything down from the peak. Maybe, next time! πŸ˜’

Peak Tram Lower Terminus

We rode the Peak Tram to the upper terminus!

With PJ!

The entrance ticket for Madame Tussauds is quite expensive (around 1,500 in Philippine Peso). If not for Lee Jong Suk's wax figure, I wouldn't be happy to pay for it! LOL.

5. Cancelled Lantau Tour 😒

Due to bad weather condition, our Lantau tour didn't push through. We were supposed to ride Ngong Ping 360 to Lantau, but it's not safe to ride it due to typhoon. Good thing we were given refund for our tickets!

Including it here coz I love this shot. This was taken at the Ngong Ping 360 Terminal.

6. Victoria Harbour & Symphony of Lights

After our supposed Lantau Tour, we went back to Tsim Sha Tsui to witness the Symphony of Lights at Victoria Harbour! Love the view here!

7. Overnight Macau Trip

We rode a ferry from HK to Macau!

Here's my fave photo in Macau. This was taken at the Parisian Hotel.

Although the weather didn't cooperate all throughout our stay, I enjoyed this trip nonetheless! So thankful for this opportunity to celebrate my 27 years of existence with people close to my heart. Thank you, Lord for the gift of life! I wish nothing for myself but good health and peaceful + happy life! πŸ’–

Looking forward to my next birthday getaway! πŸ™‚
